The Man Behind the Mission

Jimmy Omo-Agege

For ten consecutive years, Jimmy Omo-Agege has returned to his home community of Orogun every Christmas to give the children of Oromuru something to celebrate. Not because it was expected of him. Not because it earns publicity. But because he believes that every child in Orogun deserves to feel the warmth of Christmas.

Born into the distinguished Omo-Agege family of Orogun — a family whose name carries significant weight in Delta State and beyond — Jimmy chose a different kind of legacy. Alongside a career spanning over 25 years in confectionery, marine logistics, real estate, and the energy sector, he has quietly built something of far greater worth: the trust and joy of an entire community’s children.

As Chairman and CEO of Zane Energy Nigeria Limited, headquartered on Victoria Island, Lagos, Jimmy leads a company dedicated to reliable and clean energy for all Nigerians. Zane Energy’s work — from LPG storage to pipeline security — reflects the same values he brings to XMAS@OROGUN: a commitment to showing up, year after year, for the people who need it most.

Now resident in England, Jimmy does not let distance diminish his connection to Orogun. Every December, the organisation begins, the funding is secured, and the children of Oromuru know that Christmas is coming. This is the tenth year. It will not be the last.

“Every child in Orogun deserves to know the joy of Christmas.”

Our Home

The Kingdom of Orogun

Orogun is a kingdom of the Urhobo people, located in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. It is home to five quarters — Umusu, Unukpo, Imodje, Emonu, and Ogwa — and encompasses approximately 28 communities in and around the town of Oromuru.

Founded around the 14th century by migrants from the Benin Empire, Orogun has maintained a proud and distinct cultural identity within Urhoboland. Uniquely, it is the only kingdom in Urhoboland that does not hold the traditional Ovie title; its ruler bears the honoured title of Okpara-Uku.

The people of Orogun speak Urhobo and a local dialect called Ukwane. Their most celebrated cultural festival is the Erose-Efe — a vibrant annual event marked by war dances, shrine processions, and the women’s Ighomon dances. The iguana holds sacred status in Orogun tradition, revered as the animal whose ancestors, according to legend, formed a living bridge to help the community’s founders escape from enemies long ago.

It is here, in this community of deep roots and living tradition, that XMAS@OROGUN was born. And it is here that it will continue to bring joy to a new generation of children each year.
